Retaking Our Schools, Remaking Society: NCSPU Organizing Conference

Join the North Carolina Student Power Union’s statewide student organizing conference on Saturday February 16, 2013!

***For folks traveling to Raleigh, there are travel scholarships and housing available! Everyone who wants to attend the conference will be able to. Please fill out the registration form below and an organizer from NCSPU will be in touch with you. We can also help connect you with other folks from your campus who are planning on coming. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided at the conference.

This conference will bring together leaders of social justice organizations, university faculty, and – most importantly – students like us for a day of education, inspiration, and action. We will discuss how we can best resist upcoming attacks on education and our communities and continue to build the movement for educational justice in North Carolina. There will be skills workshops and opportunities to network with student organizers from across the state!

10 – 11: Conference opens!/Icebreaker/Set the tone for the day

3:10 – 3:20: Break/energizer

3:20 – 5:00: How do we build the fightback? Organizing and Action Planning Assembly

5 – 6 : March on the Civitas Institute

6 – 9: Dinner outside the conference

9 – 12: Afterparty social


Parking & Directions:

Riddick Hall is located at 2401 Stinson Drive. There are many lots and parking located near Riddick Hall. We’ll also have volunteers out on Saturday helping to direct folks to Riddick Hall. If you have any trouble finding Riddick or parking on Saturday, please call 919-727-9223.

Any NCSU parking that is not specifically marked as having a 24 hour permit requirement is free on Saturdays. All parking on Hillsborough Street is free as well, and it is a short walk from Hillsborough to Riddick Hall.

For folks coming in on I-40 East:

  • Take exit 289 for Wade Avenue
  • Turn right on Faircloth St
  • Turn left on Hillsborough St
  • At traffic circle, take 1st exit/right on Pullen Road
  • At next traffic circle, take 1st exit/right onto Stinson Dr.

For folks coming in on I-40 West:

  • Take exit 298B for South Saunders St
  • Slight right onto McDowell St
  • Take the Martin Luther King Jr Blvd exit towards Western Blvd
  • MLK Jr Blvd will turn into Western Blvd
  • Turn right onto Dan Allen Dr.
  • Turn right onto Yarbrough Dr.

If you will be arriving on Friday evening and need housing, please call Bryan at 704-770-6418.

If you need housing on Saturday night, you will receive your housing assignment at the registration table at the conference. You can also call 704-770-6418 for more information or if you have questions.

Folks who will be needing housing are encouraged to bring a sleeping bag, pillows, and/or blankets. If you don’t have a sleeping bag, call us at 704-770-6418 and we can help make arrangements for you.
